Koch Solutions, a key player in engineering and mining, first partnered with Austin Technology in 2022. With operations spanning Perth and Port Hedland and over 100 users, they required robust and scalable IT infrastructure to support demanding, geographically dispersed workflows. Our role was to provide seamless managed IT services, with a focus on creating an infrastructure that would grow with Koch’s expanding needs.
The Challenge:
Operating across two significant sites, Koch Solutions needed reliable and high-performance IT systems that could support both their immediate and long-term requirements. The existing setup lacked the resilience and scalability necessary for their growth plans. Furthermore, their team required strong connectivity solutions to handle high-volume data transfers between Perth and Port Hedland, alongside streamlined, secure integration with their Germany-based internal IT team.
The Solution:
Austin Technology spearheaded a major overhaul of Koch’s infrastructure. This transformation began with the migration of Koch’s IT systems to the NextDC P2 data centre, leveraging a state-of-the-art, hyper-converged solution built with Storage Spaces Direct. This system provides high scalability and redundancy, ensuring that Koch’s IT infrastructure can handle future expansion with ease and maintain maximum uptime.
In collaboration with Vocus, we implemented both Metro Ethernet Fibre and Dark Fibre connectivity to boost network performance and reliability between sites. This connection ensures fast and secure data flow, supporting Koch’s geographically spread workforce and remote operations in mining locations.
Our ongoing engagement with Koch’s German IT team was crucial in aligning their global IT requirements with the unique demands of their Australian sites. Austin Technology also took on the role of primary hardware provider, coordinating closely with Koch’s internal teams to streamline procurement and deliver hardware rapidly as needs arose.
