Cloud backup
Offsite cloud backup with restores we test
We back up Microsoft 365 and servers offsite, with immutable copies of hosted systems that cannot be changed or deleted during their lock period. Then we prove it works, with tested restores and a recovery plan that says how long each system takes to come back.

01Where it goes wrong
Signs your backup would not save you
Most businesses have a backup. Far fewer have one they have restored from. These are the gaps we find most often.
- 01
Nobody has tested a restore
The backup job reports success every night, but nobody has brought back a server or a mailbox from it this year.
FixScheduled restore tests with a written result: what was restored and how long it took.
- 02
The backup sits next to what it protects
A storage box in the same room, on the same network, with the same admin password. Ransomware that reaches the server can reach the backup too.
FixAn offsite copy in our datacentre, away from your office network. Hosted systems also get immutable copies that cannot be changed or deleted during their lock period.
- 03
Microsoft 365 is not backed up
Exchange Online keeps deleted email for 14 days by default and 30 days at most. Deleted SharePoint sites are kept for 93 days. A mistake found after that may be gone for good.
FixMicrosoft 365 backup with Veeam, from $5 per user per month, covering Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams.
- 04
No agreed recovery time
Nobody has written down how much data the business can afford to lose or how long it can run without each system.
FixA recovery point and recovery time agreed for each system, with backups designed to meet them.
02What we protect
Backup and recovery for every system
One team designs, runs, monitors and tests your backups, wherever the systems live. We use Veeam across all of them.
Microsoft 365 backup
Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams backed up with Veeam, separate from Microsoft, from $5 per user per month.

What Microsoft keeps and what it does not
Microsoft runs the service. Under its shared responsibility model, protecting your data stays with you. These are Microsoft's default recovery windows.
| If this happens | Microsoft 365 on its own | With our Microsoft 365 backup |
|---|---|---|
| Email is deleted | Recoverable for 14 days by default and 30 days at most | Restored from backup copies kept for the retention period we agree with you |
| A SharePoint site is deleted | Kept for 93 days, then permanently deleted with all its content | Restored from backup, including after that window |
| Who is responsible for the data | You. Microsoft says the customer always keeps responsibility for data | Still you, with us running, monitoring and testing the backup |
Retention settings inside Microsoft 365 can extend some of these windows, but they keep data in the same tenant as the original. A separate backup keeps a copy outside it.

04How it works
How we make recovery predictable
Recovery starts with a business decision, not a product. We agree the targets with you, then build and test backups to meet them. For systems that must be running again within hours, see disaster recovery.
- Step 1
Agree targets
For each system we agree how much data you can afford to lose and how long you can be without it.
- Step 2
Set up
Schedules, retention and offsite copies set to meet those targets. The first full copy runs out of hours with bandwidth limits, then only changed blocks are sent.
- Every day
Monitor
Backup jobs are checked and failures followed up. Servers and core services are monitored 24/7.
- On a schedule
Test and update
Files, mailboxes and servers restored on a schedule, with the time recorded. The recovery runbook is updated when your systems change.

07Questions
Cloud backup questions
What businesses ask us about backup and recovery. Anything else, call 1300 787 429.
01Does Microsoft back up Microsoft 365?
Not in the way most people expect. Microsoft keeps the service running and keeps deleted items for a short time. Deleted email is recoverable for 14 days by default and 30 at most; deleted SharePoint sites are kept for 93 days. Under Microsoft's shared responsibility model your data stays your responsibility, so a separate backup covers what falls outside those windows.
02How much does cloud backup cost?
Microsoft 365 backup is from $5 per user per month. Backups of servers in AustinCloud are included in the hosting price. Veeam Vault offsite copies are billed per TB. For servers in your office we give you a fixed quote after the restore test.
03Is our backup data kept in Australia?
For systems in AustinCloud, yes. It runs across three Perth data centres and hosted data stays in WA. Before you sign up we tell you exactly where every other copy is stored, including Microsoft 365 and Veeam Vault backups.
04How fast can you restore after ransomware?
It depends on the system and the targets we agreed. Single files and mailboxes come back quickly; whole servers take longer. That is why we set a recovery time for each system and test it. Where copies are immutable, there is a clean version to restore from, because nobody can change or delete it during the lock period.
05How long does setup take, and will it slow our network?
Setup starts with the restore test and a plan with dates. The first full copy of a server takes the longest, so we run it outside business hours and limit the bandwidth it uses. After that, only changed blocks are sent.
06Does this work with our IT person?
Many clients have an internal IT person who keeps running everyday IT while we run, monitor and test the backups and report to both of you.
