Austin Technology is now SMB1001 Gold certified

CyberCert SMB1001 Gold Level 3 certification badge

Austin Technology is now certified to SMB1001:2026 Gold (Level 3). CyberCert issued the certificate on 16 October 2026, and anyone can check it on the CyberCert register.

What SMB1001 is

SMB1001 is a cyber security standard written for small and medium businesses by Dynamic Standards International, an Australian standards body. It has five levels, from Bronze to Diamond, and each level adds controls to the one below it. CyberCert assesses businesses against the standard and issues the certificate.

More insurers, larger customers and supplier questionnaires now ask about it, because it gives a business owner a clear list of what to put in place instead of a framework written for large enterprises.

What Gold covers

Gold is Level 3. To get there we put 27 requirements in place across our own business, including:

  • endpoint detection and response, antivirus and automatic patching on every device
  • multi factor authentication on email, business applications and social media accounts
  • a password manager, individual accounts for every staff member and no admin rights on day to day accounts
  • remote desktop only over a VPN, and email authentication to stop spoofing
  • a backup and recovery strategy for important data, and cyber insurance
  • written procedures for invoice fraud, incident response, secure disposal of devices and the use of AI
  • security awareness training for the whole team

How it sits beside ISO 27001

We are also certified to ISO 27001 for information security and ISO 9001 for quality, and Compass Assurance Services audits both every year. The standards do different jobs. ISO 27001 covers how security is managed across the whole business and is checked by an external auditor. SMB1001 is a practical list of controls. At Gold, a director attests that every control is in place and CyberCert issues the certificate on that attestation. Platinum and Diamond add controls that an independent auditor tests.

Why we did it

We take clients through SMB1001 certification, so we went through it ourselves first. We know what each requirement looks like in a working business, what evidence to have ready and where businesses usually get stuck. Our SecureShield Control plan aligns to Gold.
