FAST Emergency Care opens a new clinic with IT ready from day one

FAST Emergency Care offers something new in Perth: walk in care from emergency specialists, with CT, X-ray, ultrasound and pathology on site. Its clinic in Kardinya needed a network, workstations, phones and clinical software working before the doors opened. We planned and delivered the fit out in four fixed price packages.

  • 70Hours to fit out the clinic, quoted up front
  • 4Fixed price work packages
  • 14Workstations built, managed and deployed
  • 7 daysOpen 10am to 8pm, so every system had to be ready

01The challenge

Where FAST started

An urgent care clinic cannot open with half its systems working. Reception needs phones. Doctors need Best Practice. Pathology and imaging need somewhere to send results. And all of it has to work from the first patient. FAST came to us with an empty floor at 1 to 15 South Street and an opening date.

A fixed opening date

The clinic was booked to open in late September. Every piece of IT had to be in and tested before then.

Clinical systems that talk to each other

Best Practice, pathology from Clinical Labs and radiology ordering all had to connect and send results to the right place.

A cost that could not drift

As a new business, FAST needed to know the price up front, not face an open ended hourly bill.

02What we did

Four packages, one opening date

We split the fit out into four fixed price packages, so FAST knew what it was paying for and what would be done by when.

/01

Planning and design

Site visits, a network design and a device plan for every room, agreed before any hardware was ordered. 22 hours.

/02

Comms rack and core network

The rack, switching and core network installed, configured and tested. 18 hours.

/03

Workstations

14 workstations built, added to our management platform and set up for consult rooms and reception. 20 hours.

/04

Phones

A Yeastar phone system configured and live, with handsets for reception and clinical staff. 10 hours.

/05

Best Practice server

A dedicated server for Best Practice, built and hosted in our cloud, with pathology from Clinical Labs set up on it.

/06

Microsoft 365 set up for a clinic

Accounts, an all staff list and OneDrive sign in configured, with Copilot switched off across the tenant at FAST's request.

03How we delivered it

Plan it, build it, check it before patients arrive

Step 1

Plan

A site visit and a network and device design, with a fixed quote for each package.

Step 2

Build

Rack and network first, then the Best Practice server and Microsoft 365.

Step 3

Deploy

Workstations set up for each room, phones configured and handsets placed.

Step 4

Check

An onsite check before opening, then clinical links like radiology ordering connected with each provider.

04The results

The difference for FAST

What changed Results

  • 01
Network, workstations, phones and clinical software in place for opening
  • 02
A final bill that matched the four fixed packages quoted
  • 03
Best Practice running on a hosted server, not a box in a back room
  • 04
One team to call for everything, from password resets to pathology links

What made it work Approach

  • 01
Fixed price packages instead of an open hourly bill
  • 02
Design agreed before hardware was ordered
  • 03
Network first, then servers, then desks
  • 04
Working directly with the clinical software providers
Today

FAST is open 10am to 8pm, seven days a week, and we look after the clinic day to day: new staff, printing and scanning, licences and the clinical connections that grow as more services come online.
