Mowbray Architecture swaps an overloaded setup for IT that just works

A Cottesloe architecture practice was running on iCloud, a desktop acting as a server and patchy WiFi. We moved its files to SharePoint and OneDrive, rebuilt the network, fitted out a new floor of the office and cut over in a weekend.

01The challenge

Where Mowbray started

Mowbray Architecture designs high end homes in Australia and overseas. Its team was frustrated with slow systems and failed uploads, and repeated reports to its previous provider had not got to the cause.

A desktop acting as a server

Files lived on iCloud and a single computer doing the job of a server. Storage kept filling up and causing outages.

A daisy chain network

Small switches linked together, with the main router doubling as WiFi. Coverage in the manager's office was poor.

No reliable backup

Critical project files were not backed up properly, so a hardware failure risked losing work.

Slow, frustrating days

Saving files was slow, uploads failed and several workstations were past their warranty.

02What we did

Honest advice, then the right fixes

The first conversation was with an account manager who recommended only what Mowbray needed. Then we fixed storage, the network and support together.

01

SharePoint and OneDrive

Files moved off iCloud and the desktop server into Microsoft 365, tested on a few folders first, then migrated in stages.

02

A professional network

The daisy chain replaced with a single professional switch.

03

UniFi WiFi

Access points placed for coverage across the whole office.

04

Set up for design software

Access controls, network tuning and testing with AutoCAD and SketchUp.

05

Office expansion

We planned the new floor: electrician quotes, data point placement and cabling, so the team moved in with everything working.

06

Monthly retainer

Consistent ongoing support, with a dedicated hotline for fast remote help.

03How we delivered it

Five steps, no downtime

Step 1

Assess

An engineer visited to check equipment, network layout, data volumes, backups and how the team works.

Step 2

Plan

A plan for the migration, new equipment and timelines, built around minimal disruption.

Step 3

Migrate

Data backed up, a test migration run, then the full move in stages.

Step 4

Expand

IT for the new floor planned and coordinated with the electricians.

Step 5

Support

Training on SharePoint and OneDrive, plus troubleshooting and tuning after go live.
